Dublin Architecture Biennial

BWD have designed a concrete and glass pavilion for the Dublin Architecture Biennial. Today, the practice is unveiling the work of its practice with Tech Slab, a to-scale prototype of a future build system made using advanced robotic fabrication processes.

The project is simultaneously an activation and an exhibition and it illustrates a design method that reduces the carbon footprint of concrete.

The third Dublin Architecture Biennial, ebtitled “The Concrete Future”, focuses on the social and ecological processes that interact with the building environment.

Designed for the Biennial, our pavilion replicates and abstracts a single-story concrete bay found in high rise buildings to create a simple architectural concept. Removed from its typical context, the structure was made to show how fabrication can be used in the building industry.

The pavilion was realised through industry partnerships with O'Connell Construction, real estate investment firm Grattans, Belfast-based Nested Construction Robotics, and Intel.
